Indeed, in many cases, emotional trauma can be exceptionally painful to cope with; however, one of the first steps towards recovering from emotional trauma is simply to understand the cause of your pain.

Emotional trauma can come in many different forms. Sometimes, it can even be due to relationship trauma and intimacy struggles. Most often, however, it’s the cause of a single or series of events that instill a sense of fear, worry, and helplessness in us.

For many people, this is often derived over a longer period of time. For example, persistent bullying or discrimination can be common causes of long-term emotional trauma. However, some people may develop emotional trauma due to short-term causes, such as being involved in a single event of abuse (such as a sexual assault) or being involved in a car accident, leaving you feeling emotionally out of control and scared.

What is Regression?

 

When seeking EMDR or hypnotherapy treatment to learn how to heal from emotional trauma, one of the most important things to consider is: what is regression? Regression is a type of emotional and intimacy therapy treatment that focuses on recalling and realigning past memories and events which may be causing distress or discomfort for an individual.

During an EMDR therapy session, your counsellor will help you enter regression first through treatment planning, ensuring you know where you stand in the process of recovery. Then, during the treatment itself, your therapist will first help you desensitize the negative memories, install more positive self-confidence or self-belief, and help you reach closure.

This is often achieved through numerous different processes and can help you learn to reprocess your past experiences, come to terms with the pain they caused you, and help you move on from this distress. Meanwhile, hypnotherapy alongside EDMR therapy may help you identify the root causes of your symptoms, allowing you to reduce triggers and lead a happier, more optimistic life.

Of course, it’s always worth considering that this isn’t an immediate process; in any scenario, you will still need to spend time with your counsellor to see results. But results are not only possible, but they’re perfectly attainable – and you could see excellent results through regression treatments.

How Long Does EMDR Therapy Take to Help?

 

At this point, you may be wondering – how long before EMDR and hypnotherapy can help with my recovery from emotional trauma or intimacy struggles? Well, this varies from person to person, so to get the best results from your recovery from trauma through regression, it’s important to dedicate enough time to EMDR therapy and hypnotherapy with help from your counsellor.

Still, it really doesn’t have to be something that takes a long time to overcome. Even long-buried traumas and memories can be overcome through EMDR therapy and hypnotherapy in just a matter of sessions; this will often depend on whether you suffered a single trauma event or multiple.

Still, for most people, the general rule of thumb is that you can begin feeling a little better from your trauma from as little as:

  • Three sessions for a single trauma incident
  • Six sessions for multiple trauma incidents

This is usually how long it will take to feel a little better after the trauma you have experienced. However, you may begin to feel substantially stronger and more self-empowered after just a few sessions with your counsellor.
