Too many to count, the experiences that produce stress, make us reactive and downright sick, are everywhere. Fortunately, for every nerve-racking and disease causing event, there is a way to bring back balance to the body, emotions and mind. Mysterious to some, and effective for many, hypnotherapy may help you if you struggle with anxiety and panic disorders, phobias, and insomnia. Also, if you want to quit smoking, shed some pounds, or get rid of chronic pain, working with a hypnotherapist could yield great benefits.

The difference between hypnosis and hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy represents the therapeutic procedure in which hypnosis is used. Hypnosis is a mental state characterized by a shift in consciousness.

How do you enter the hypnotic state?

The hypnotherapist is your guide in the world immediately beneath the surface of your mind. The voice tonality, key words and images, and repetitions, are all part of the therapeutic process. As the trance deepens, your focus is heightened, and you usually experience a state of relaxation. The trance is a calming state, very different from sleep.

How does the hypnotic trance feel like?

The hypnotic state could feel like a descent. The deeper you go into yourself, the more open you are to suggestions. Even though you are receptive and relaxed, you remain in control. During hypnosis, you enter a hyper-aware state.

A miraculous medical story

Doctor Albert Mason was a young British physician. The year was 1952. A fifteen-year-old boy had almost his entire body covered with warts. At the time it wasn’t uncommon to treat warts with hypnosis. During their first session together, doctor Mason put the boy in trance and told him the skin on his arm would heal. And in one week, the warts on the boy’s arm disappeared. Albert Mason took the boy to the surgeon that had previously tried to use skin grafts on the boy’s skin. The surgeon told Mason that the boy was suffering from a lethal skin condition, and not from warts. What the young doctor and the boy had accomplished was done through the power of hypnosis and belief, and it was something close to the impossible. They have cured the incurable.

The secrets to a successful hypnotherapy session

Feeling safe in the presence of the hypnotherapist is key to a fruitful treatment. Also, how suggestible you are will impact how deep you will go in the trance state. Some people can let go with more ease, others need more time to become comfortable with hypnosis.

If you are new to hypnosis and wondering how effective is hypnotherapy, studies show incredible positive results for weight-loss, smoking, migraines, pain reduction, and anxiety. Also, hypnosis speeds up healing from injury and helps overcome addiction.

Hypnosis is real, effective, and its roots disappear in time. Ancient civilizations healed their people using hypnosis, and there is a wealth of evidence demonstrating what this therapeutic tool had done in the last decades. Even though hypnotherapy is not an universal remedy, it still remains a powerful healing modality that can alleviate, lighten and transform those who respond to it.
